Meeting with Animal Health, 9 December
Representatives from the BAS, BLS and TBAG along with Gina Bromage (who will be presenting the TB Information meetings during Jan/Feb 2010) held a meeting with Animal Health bTB specialists at AH HQ, Worcester, on 9 December.
Animal Health fielded a team of 11 staff, led by Andy Foxcroft, Director of Field services for England, together with Veterinary Officers who are directly involved with TB cases. A wide ranging discussion gave both AH and the BAS the chance to get their points accross.
Of major importance to all of us is the development of an accurate test for TB in camelids. A new test has been used on an experimental basis, but it will need to be proven and validated before it can enter use and, of course, there is no guarantee that it will prove succesful. Signs appear to be promising however.
We will update the membership as soon as there is any news on the new test.
Another meeting will take place in the new year to discuss this further. It was suggested that 300 camelids will be needed to validate the test.
