BIOSECURITY AT SHOWS
Contact between alpacas at shows is unavoidable and exhibitors must accept the risk that, if present, transmission of disease could occur. The BAS can accept no responsibility for such occurrences.
Please take all practical precautions and do not travel with an animal if there is any doubt as to its health

In order to instill confidence in both alpaca and other livestock exhibitors, entries will only be accepted for animals from 3- & 4-year cattle bTB testing areas. Please check your Parish Testing Interval on the Animal Health website before making your entry and include your holding number with your entry fees.
A reduction in the number of entries has been necessary to enable a 3-metre gap between breeders. Spit barriers and comprehensive biosecurity procedures will be in place, as per BAS recommendations.

Numbers will be limited in 2010 to accommodate improved biosecurity measures following BAS guidelines. Increased entry fee £15. Entries are on a first come, first served basis and will close as soon as all the spaces have been filled.
Please note – due to improved biosecurity, alpacas will not be accommodated indoors. All breeders will be allocated a space for their trailer and hurdles will be provided to pen alpacas adjacent to this trailer. Owners are encouraged to bring gazebos to cover their penning areas

Kerry Bettinson of the Toft Alpaca Shop will speak on 'What the Manufacturers and Processors are Looking for in British Alpaca Fleece' and Hilary Shenton of Zarza Alpacas will speak on 'Breeding for High Quality Manufactured Products' and 'The Alpaca Scene in Italy'. Judge Nick Harrington-Smith will explain what a judge looks for in a prize-winning fleece and will give an explanation of a few of the class placings.
Food and drink will be available during the day.
Fleeces entered into both this and the Scottish National Fleece Show should be clearly marked. There will be free carriage of fleeces to and from the Scottish National Fleece Show, to be held 1–5 November at Plane Castle, Stirlingshire. This will be judged by world-renowned fleece expert, Cameron Holt. Fleeces can be collected from Sapphire Alpacas after the Scottish National Fleece Show or, on payment of the appropriate postage, they will be posted back to owners. No fleeces will be kept at Sapphire Alpacas beyond 26 November as the storage space is required

Entries will be limited to 120 alpacas for biosecurity reasons. Alpacas which are from or, in the 6 months prior to the show has been in contact with animals from a parish with a 12-month bTB testing regime are not eligible to enter. However, alpacas that have attended a BAS-approved show that has conformed to the new biosecurity advice will not be classed as having 'been in contact with' and will be allowed to enter.
