30 May 2022     British Alpaca Society     BAS Board

Spring is my most favourite time of the year. The weather typically gets better, the grass is growing, the garden is coming alive but the most exciting thing of all, is that new life will be appearing on the farm! Not only is our peahen sitting on eggs but we have been blessed with the arrival of two beautiful cria.

Trying to keep an eye on pregnant females, whilst holding down a full time job can be quite stressful, yet the high of seeing healthy and happy cria makes it all worthwhile. I will thoroughly enjoy taking a few minutes over the Jubilee Holiday to sit back and watch our heavily pregnant females munch their way through the spring grass, whilst I will no doubt be being nibbled, by our super friendly first born cria.

Be mindful to pay a little more attention to your alpacas over the celebratory long weekend, as there may be some fireworks. I hope each and every one of you are getting some time off to enjoy the festivities and no doubt there will be many cria named with the Jubilee in mind!

Best wishes for a healthy and happy birthing season!
